under them consisting of Deans, Directors, and Administrative Staff who support
to run of the Campus operations.
At DMMMSU-MLUC,
Dr. Epuardo C. Corpuz as changcellor and at the College of Education (CE), Dr.
Cedric Anthony E. Ochoco as Dean, Dr. Alfonso S. Lopez as Chairperson of the
Department of Basic Education, and Dr. Sharlane Gay Elaine V. Fabrigas as

Teaching
System
Laboratory High School MLUC-DMMMSU had applied K-12 Curriculum. The K to 12 Program
covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary
education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High
School [SHS]) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills,
develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education,
middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship.
K to 12
Curriculum an approach to education focusing on the needs of the learner.
Learner-centered learning is focused on the learner’s needs, abilities,
interests, learning styles with the teacher as a facilitator of learning. This
classroom teaching method acknowledges learners’ voices as central to the
learning experience.
Some of the strategies
used in High School MLUC-DMMMSU (Grade 7) based on my observe such as :
– Discussion
–
Quiz
–
Study
–
Games
From my
observation, in High School MLUC-DMMMSU using learning source accordance with
the curriculum, text book so the teacher will made lesson plan for their
subject accordance to the students ability and school condition according to
subjects every teacher have different method of teaching. And for the materials
usually teacher will look for information relating to teaching materials with
the real life.
In addition,
this school also has several teaching materials / media, such as TV, board,
chalk, fan, eraser, speaker, toilet in each class, mineral water and
others. With these materials and
facilities, the learners can feel comfortable in learning and can make it
easier for students to understand.
The teacher
usually gives assignments or homework after class or in the last 10 minutes in
each subject.
Because the High
School MLUC-DMMMSU adapt to K-12 Curriculum so, Under D.O. No. 8, s.2015
effective school year 2015-2016. The new k to 12 grading system used fewer
components and launched a new conversion table. Public schools from
kindergarten to senior high school should use it. In the same way, it asks
non-DepEd schools to apply the changes, too.
Under this
order, the results of the components of the summative assessment such as
Written Work, Performance Tasks, and Quarterly Assessment will form the bases
for the grade computation.
New Grading Components for Grades 1-10
1. Written Work
(WW) – makes sure students can express skills and contents in written form.
2. Performance
Task (PT) – lets learners show what they know and can do in diverse ways.
3. Quarterly
Assessment (QA) – measures student learning at the end of the quarter.
The MLUC-DMMMSU
Laboratory (Primary and Secondary Schools) of the College of Education uses K
to 12 law of Philippines. The K to 12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years
of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of Junior High
School, and two years of Senior High School [SHS]) to provide sufficient time
for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare
graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment,
and entrepreneurship.
I teach grade 7
in Mathematics. I have to teach 1 subject every day (60 minutes / session).
Before I started teaching, I was given a schedule for the topic I would teach.
My Cooperating Teacher guides me how to make Detailed Learning Plans and I have
to make lesson plans every day.
And every
morning I show my lesson plans to my Cooperating Teacher and she will give some
corrections such as wrong sentences in the lesson plan and wrong steps that I
make.
4. Pedagogic
Content
a.
Teaching methods of the teacher that you
observed.
Based on my
observations in the first week, I observed my Cooperating Teacher Ma’am Therese
Anne Octubre Imbat and Ma’am Myrafe B. Rivera.
Ma’am Therese teaches ESP subjects and Ma’am Myrafe B. Rivera teaches Mathematics.
Before starting
the class, the teacher leads to pray, then the teacher always checks the
student’s presence. After that the teacher usually starts the lesson by asking
questions and conducting discussions. Then the teacher gives material using the
video clips, simulation or provides real examples so that it is easily
understood by students and with other methods. After that, after the material
is submitted, the teacher gives an evaluation or assignment. And besides that
the teacher also gives homework. Because using the K-12 Curriculum the teaching
method is student-centered.
b.
Their learning materials &
innovation
In this school
teacher always use materials that have an connection with their topic some of
them using projector to show video clips or matery and some of them using an
inovatif material like flashcard to increase student’s spirit and activity, and
they also use the board.
c.
Source of learning & technology used
by the Teacher
Students get
their own textbooks from school, and the teacher uses the book as a source, but
in addition to the textbook, teachers also usually use concrete examples and
discuss topics that will be discussed that day. So students are easy to
understand and there is more interaction.
For assesment,
the teacher has many authentic assessments, such as the teacher always giving
questions in the middle of the material to see the concentration of students,
besides the teacher also gives assignments after the delivery of the material
and even the teacher also gives homework to the students.
5. Teaching
Plan
a.
Curriculum
The MLUC-DMMMSU
Laboratory (High School) of the Mathematics Education uses K to 12 law of
Philippines. The K to 12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic
education (six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School,
and two years of Senior High School [SHS]) to provide sufficient time for
mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare
graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment,
and entrepreneurship.
b.
Teaching plan relate your major
I teach grade 3
in ESP and Mapeh subjects. I have to teach 1 subject every day (60 minutes /
day and 30 minutes / session). Before I started teaching, I was given a
schedule for the topic I would teach. My Cooperating Teacher guides me how to
make detailed Learning Plans and I have to make lesson plans every day.
And every morning before I start practice
teaching, I always show my lesson plans to my Cooperating Teacher and she will
give some corrections such as wrong sentences in the lesson plan and wrong
steps that I make.
6. Teaching
Practice
a.
Procedures of teaching
I teach in grade
7 and Mathematics Education. To start
the class I asked who would lead the prayer, after that I checked attendance by
calling out the names of the students one by one. Then before entering into the topic of the
lesson I give motivation first like playing the video clips. After that I gave a few questions to
students, such as what the title of the video clip was and about what the value
of life was from the video. I use video
clips that are relevant to the topic that I will discuss.
After that I
started to discuss the topic. And
explain the material in accordance with the leson plan. Then I give another question as a repetition
of the topic I discussed. And after that
in the last 15 minutes I gave an assignment for evaluation.
b.
Time management & organizing
activity
For time
management and organizing activities I can handle them according to the lesson
plan. But sometimes it is more than the scheduled class time because students
have not finished in doing the assignment. And to overcome that, I always
remind students of the remaining class time and encourage students to make it
fast.
c.
Problem Solving
There are some
problems that I get during practice. One of them is a number of students who
are less enthusiastic about the lesson and besides that some students also ask
in Tagalog. And to overcome this problem, I try to attract more attention of
students and come to students who lack concentration. And for the second
problem I usually ask for help from other students who are fluent in English to
translate the intentions of students who ask in Tagalog. In addition, I also
learned a little Tagalog language from students and my Cooperating Teacher.
For class
management, I always pay attention to students who have difficulty doing their
assignments one by one and monitor students during class and I always go around
to check their assignments.
7. Summary
& Suggestion
a.
Purpose of practicum
The purpose of
this practicum is that I gain a lot of new experience, new knowledge and
develop skills in teaching. Then it can also be able to compare between
teaching methods in Indonesia with those in the Philippines. In addition, with
this practicum I can also experience cultural exchange, and improve my English
skills.
b.
Procedures of practicum
1. The first
week is observation of the school profile, student characteristics, teaching
methods used by the teacher, classroom atmosphere, time management, and
pedagogical content.
2. The second
week is the assistant teacher where I help my Cooperating Teacher if she needs
help.
3. My
cooperating teacher help me to make a lesson plan.
4. On the third
week I started teaching practice according to the lesson plan was I made.
5. And the last
week is demonstration teaching (final demo) and Evaluation by the principal and
Cooperating Teacher about my teaching practice.
c.
Outcomes of practicum
The outcomes of
this practicum is that I got a lot of new things from this program. I can
improve my English better than before. I also found new methods in teaching,
how to manage classes, and know the characteristics of students. Besides that I
also feel more confident and more communicative in teaching.
The challenge in
this practice is language. Maybe because I teach in the lower class, some
English students are not fluent so they are less active in asking questions and
use the Filipino language more often. But I tried to overcome it by more
actively coming to his chair, and not forgetting to use body language. And
because my English is also not fluent, with this program we learn together.
I am very happy
and grateful to be able to join this program because with this program I can
get new things that are useful for my life in the future. With this program I
met good people, gained new knowledge in teaching, new knowledge in Tagalog and
Ilokano, although only a little but I was very happy. In addition, I also had
the opportunity to introduce my country and exchange cultures, and many other
impressions. I just want to say thank you to God, then my parents, and also the
International office of UM PAREPARE, DMMMSU, and SEAMEO for giving me this
opportunity.
d.
Suggestion for future improvment
Overall, this
program is very good and very useful.
There is not much advice from me, maybe just in my opinion a month is
not enough to get a lot of experience in teaching practice. So maybe it can take longer than a month to
take part in this program in the future in order to get more experience and new
knowledge. But this is only a
suggestion, everything in this program is very good.
Okay, maybe
enough fot my self report, I hope you enjoyed to read
“Thank you if
you done Reading”

Morning, Magandang Umaga, Selamat Pagi”
